It’s true that design is a problem-solving process but it’s also a problem-seeking process. To produce outstanding design an architect must seek to understand the relevant information that affects the design. Local and state regulations, physical aspects of the building site, environmental conditions and client requirements are some of the elements that can affect the design of a project. The challenge is to understand how each element influences other elements and find the best design solution for each project. RPS Design works closely with each client through all phases of the process to identify relevant information and integrate it into the final design.

RPS Design is a full service Architectural Design firm working to enhance the built environment in Sonoma, Napa and Marin Counties since 2003. Robert Suttman’s holistic approach to design examines all aspects of the project needed to deliver a beautiful and functional product to each client.
The North Bay is rich with unique communities. Each locale has its own character, and each neighborhood has its own special charm. A home designed to work well in Mill Valley may not succeed in Napa. And the needs of one family may not satisfy the needs of another family. At RPS Design we seek a design solution tailored to enhance the life of each client and become a positive addition to the communities in which they are built.
Robert’s studies at The Kent State University School of Architecture and Environmental Design afforded him a firm foundation on which to build his architectural skills. Since his graduation in 1994, he has plied his trade in Ohio, Florida, Santa Barbara California and the North Bay area. In all of his life and his work in these diverse locations, Rob has sought to absorb the visual and functional texture that makes each place unique. He carries these experiences with him today and draws on this three-dimensional database to enrich his design vocabulary. Robert is always building on those foundations laid in Kent, Ohio.

Rob has done 2 projects for me. I am a busy Marin County realtor that needs service and ideas that can be done relatively quickly and easily. The first project was redoing 2 original baths and designing a bath where one didn't exist, as well as transforming an art studio to a new 2nd master suite. His drawings passed City Hall with ease and he stayed with the client and me in a timely manner.
The 2nd project was to create a walk in closet into the master bedroom that required reducing the oversized master bath so that both aspects blended into the design and scale of the home gracefully.
Rob did a great job on both! He's easy to work with; listens to his clients objectives and comes up with options that make sense. I highly recommend Rob for any redesign project...or original design project in Marin, Napa or Sonoma Counties.

I met Robert when looking for a Architect for a large remodel project . His design was approved by my clients and he made sure their needs were met . I liked how he covered everything , was available for answering questions while not being a micromanager. His drawings were well executed , the details were clear and he trusted me to do my job and made it a good partnership . It was a difficult job as the clients had to live in the job and it was a total rebuild of 70 percent with a second floor addition . As a contractor , you need professionals who get the job through plan check , permitting and guidance as the work progresses .
